Chance photographs offer accidental compositions
I’m a great believer in the accident of chance over expertise
Sometimes random photos yield some interesting ideas for compositions. At least I think so.
Here are a few examples. Try squinting your eyes a little bit to blur them naturally. Breathe in, and take a long breath out. Linger for some time, as if you were walking in an art gallery. Ask yourself, I wonder why someone bothered to make this.
There is something yin-yang about the goose itself, and also represented by its backdrop.
Alternatively, how about a tighter frame? Better or worse?
The curiosity of this fawn gave me enough time to connect on this remote road in the hills.
Often animals make unremarkable subjects because their coats and shape meld with their setting — their camouflage makes it hard to distinguish them from the background.
In this case the man-made road and gate with their angles, provide some helpful leading lines.
In the next and last example, I liked the juxtaposition of type and geometry with the natural environment masking out just enough to make it illegible and indiscernible.
What’s your opinion. Would you care for a painting of these subjects? Do you like these accidental compositions?
More importantly, what can you find on your photo roll, that deserves a longer look.

That fawn is sooo cute! As is the bird yang-yin. Never thought about looking at my pictures before and trying to see something other than what I was seeing. Thank you for that! And yes I would have a fawn painting in my home, probably a more common area because I like the way I feel when I look at it.
